Baking Powder Biscuits
Makes
16
2
cups sifted all-purpose flour
3
teaspoons baking powder
½
teaspoon salt
¼ cup
shortening
¾ cup
milk
Sift
together flour, baking powder and salt into bowl. Cut in shortening till
mixture resembles coarse crumbs, make a well and add milk all at once. Stir
quickly with fork just till dough follows fork around bowl. Turn dough onto
lightly floured surface. Knead gently 10 to 12 strokes. Roll or pat dough ½
inch thick. Dip biscuit cutters in flour; cut dough straight down without
twisting. Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 450-degree oven for
12 to 15 minutes.
This
recipe goes well with the Creamed Chicken recipe on the Main Dishes page.
